Digital Risk Management Certificate

The Digital Risk Management Certificate is the ideal qualification for anyone looking to develop an understanding of risk management in the digital era. The qualification has been designed to introduce learners to digital disruption, its causes and consequences and to equip individuals with the tools and techniques to apply their skills in an increasingly digital world.

Taking 6-9 months to complete, the certificate is a distance learning study programme that is relevant to all sectors.

Qualification overview


This new specialist Certificate, awarded by the IRM and developed with support from the WMG Cyber Security Centre at the University of Warwick and the University’s Department of Politics and International Studies, has been designed to equip individuals to apply and develop their skills in an increasingly digital world.

The qualification provides an introduction to the concepts of digital risk management and explains how new technologies and digitalisation are disrupting businesses, changing the risk environment for organisations of all types and posing new ethical challenges. It explores how appropriate risk management tools and techniques can be applied, adapted and developed in the digital context and provides a detailed introduction to cyber security principles and practices.

The certificate is set at an equivalent level of difficulty to an undergraduate degree. 


 

6-9 months                                                                                                                                                      

Students undertaking the Digital Risk Management Certificate qualification can complete the qualification within 6-9 months. 


An indicative study time for the qualification is between 180 and 200 hours per module.

There are no formal entry requirements.

IRM's qualifications are delivered and assessed in English. If English is not your first language, we recommend you have an Academic IELTS score of 6.0 (with no element less than 5.5) or equivalent evidence of competence in the English language before beginning your studies.


IRM’s examinations are online and computer-based. Module content will be assessed through the use of the learning outcomes.

* As a response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) we have taken the decision to postpone all our Certificate examinations in June 2020 to December 2020. This decision was not taken lightly, however in these exceptional times, our primary aim is to safeguard students and employees.

Students enrolled for the June 2020 examinations do not need to take any action to transfer their exams.

Examination Centres

Pearson VUE has an extensive test centre network across the world.

Students will be notified of the date they can book the test centre for the exam after they have enrolled on the qualification and their payment successfully processed.


Special needs and access arrangements

Wherever possible, examination arrangements will take into account any special requirements you have. If you complete an application for special arrangements, we must receive your completed form no later than two months before your scheduled examination and before you book your exam centre with Pearson VUE. This is to give us enough time to effectively help you with your requirements. While we aim to meet all requests, we cannot fulfil requirements where applications are received late.

Who is the qualification suitable for? 

This qualification is recommended for anyone who wishes to understand risk management in the digital era. It provides a basis for understanding digital disruption, its causes and its consequences, and it equips students with the tools and techniques of professional risk management to mitigate the risks inherent in the digital world of the fourth industrial revolution.

It is an introduction to the subject of digital risk management for those from all disciplines directly or indirectly related to professional risk management.

For existing IRM members, it is also suitable as a supplementary qualification for continuing professional development.

Can students currently enrolled on another IRM qualification enrol onto this Certificate at the same time?

Students can only enrol on one certificate level qualification at a time. The IRM has two examination sessions per year, students currently enrolled on the International Certificate in Enterprise Risk Management or International Certificate in Financial Services Risk Management can enrol onto this qualification in the next available exam session following the completion of the International Certificate.

How do I pay?

How many attempts and how long do I have to complete the qualification?

Students have 3 attempts  and must complete the qualification successfully within 3 consecutive sessions e.g. If you enrol for the June session, then you have the following December & June sessions or if you enrol for the December session, then you have the following June & December sessions. If a session is skipped then this will count as an attempt. After this point, students will be required to re-enrol and pay a further enrolment fee.

How is learning delivered?

Through supported distance learning.

What happens when I complete the qualification?

Digital risk students who are also qualified members e.g. IRMCert, CMIRM etc. would continue with their qualified member grade.

Those who don’t have a designation would have to convert to affiliate membership or be lapsed.

What is the average study time?
