The Global Risks Report 2017 was issued on 11 January 2017, in advance of this year’s Davos forum and IRM Chairman Nicola Crawford and Vice Chairman Jose Morago represented the Institute at the launch event in London.
The report acknowledges the contribution of the IRM members who contributed to the survey work in the Autumn of 2016. Extreme weather events and natural disasters head up the list of top global risks as in many previous years but this year the risk of a massive incident of data fraud/theft is also considered to be one of the most likely. Five key challenges faced by the world are identified: reviving economic growth; reforming market capitalism to address inequality and fracturing societies; facing up to the importance of identity and community; managing technological change and protecting and strengthening systems of global co-operation.
