Institute of Risk Management (IRM) Appoints Three New Board Members

The IRM has recently made three new Board appointments. These senior figures from global business will add to the strategic leadership of the organisation.

The Board of Directors (the Board) is the governing body of IRM and is responsible to the members for managing the business and affairs of IRM. Its role is essentially strategic. Operational and day-to-day management of IRM is the responsibility of the chief executive, who works with the Board to develop IRM strategy.

The Board Charter sets out the respective roles, responsibilities and authorities of the board of directors (both individually and collectively) in setting the direction, the management and the control of the Institute.

The appointments are:

Rahat Latif, Head of Enterprise Risk Management Division, Qatar Gas, who said:

"It is both a delight and an honour for me to be appointed onto the Board of the IRM to serve its members. I have been involved with the IRM for many years and know that it plays a crucial role both in the development of risk professionals through structured training and education, and in the development of the profession itself through setting high standards and thought leadership.

Living and working overseas has also enabled me to appreciate the value and respect it has in the risk community worldwide. I really look forward to working with the Board to help IRM continue to meet its objectives and challenges, and the aspirations of its members worldwide."

Dr Maria Papadaki, Managing Director, The Dubai Centre for Risk and Innovation Management

Assistant Professor, The British University in Dubai, she said:

“I am delighted to join the board of the Institute of Risk Management at this exciting time in the development of the profession. There is a growing awareness of the importance of the institute’s work and I am relishing the opportunity to shape its future direction and success.

The IRM provides a comprehensive programme of qualifications and training; these are recognised globally. I believe that our offer should be underpinned by world-class research that informs the future development of our qualifications, and ensures that the IRM is recognised as an innovative and authoritative source of knowledge on risk and risk management.

As part of my board work, I will facilitate engagement with scholars working globally in the fields of, inter alia, risk, uncertainty, complexity, programme/project management, disruptive technologies (i.e. Blockchain Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, etc.) and asset management. I would be delighted to hear from members who are actively working with research organisations to inform business decisions and professional practice.”

Maria Papadaki

Ray Flynn, is a specialist consultant in risk management, specifically anti-bribery and corruption and long-time supporter of the IRM. He commented:

“I am excited to be joining the board of such a tremendous international institute and look forward to contributing to its further success. Having served, for a number of years, on the institute’s Audit and Risk Committee I am happy to be stepping up to the additional responsibility that being member of the board entails. I hope that I can contribute in a meaningful way to the sustainable growth of the IRM and to consolidating its position of leadership in the field of risk management worldwide”.
