Perspectives on Environmental & Social Governance (ESG) Reporting.

We hope you can join us for this event where members of the risk community will share their knowledge and best practice in relation to Environmental & Social Governance.  The session will be set within the context of good governance of organisations and global challenges being faced by organisations across different sectors and the world. 

In providing thought leadership in an area of strategic interest to the IRM, Environmental & Social Governance, the speakers will provide risk professionals with their respective views of principles and practice in ESG Reporting.  As the UK and India are both leading in ESG reporting, this joint event will focus on an aspect of ESG of increasing importance to risk professionals and professionals interested in Environmental & Social Governance across the wider international community.

The speakers will provide thought leadership in presenting different perspectives as to:

-How enterprise risk management reporting can support ESG.

-'Greenwashing' risks can be managed and mitigated, as well as current thinking about disclosures.

-One view as to how a shift from shareholder primacy to stakeholder capitalism will help achieve the required balance between enhanced profitability and sustainability.

The speakers:

Anita Punwani CFIRM, Chair, IRM Environmental & Social Governance Group.

Anita’s thirty-year career in engineering, economics, management and governance spans the public, not-for-profit and private sectors. An IRM-qualified risk professional, she has served on the IRM Board and numerous committees including the IRM Audit & Risk and Interest Group committees.  Anita led IRM education modules in business continuity, crises, resilience, future risks and risk treatment before returning to study herself, earning an MSc in Global Governance & Ethics with a focus on the governance of not-for-profit and voluntary sector organisations. She represents the UK and IRM in developing international governance standards and initiated the framework for a standard in Modern Slavery. As IRM Deputy Chair & NED, she was interviewed by the BBC & CNBC during the pandemic.  Anita is a member of Chatham House and UNA-UK.  Her artwork was selected by the World Bank’s ‘Art of Resilience’ competition. 

Dr Abdul Mohib CMIRM, Assistant Director, Risk, Assurance & Projects, Peabody Group.

Abdul’s career has focused on public protection spanning counter-terrorism, food safety, rail transport, public health and social housing - he has experience in leading and setting direction on risk management for a variety of matrix-based organizations of varying sizes from different sectors. He specialises in embedding the ‘Three Lines of Defence’ model to ensure effective risk assurance and governance frameworks. Abdul is an active member of the IRM ESG Group, the Government Risk Improvement Group, and Deloitte’s Chief Risk Officers forum.  He has been involved in the global ‘INvolve’ mentoring programme as a BAME mentor.  Abdul’s post-doctoral scientific research was based on sustainable crop protection, corporate business continuity and incident management.

Alex Hindson CFIRM, Chief Risk & Sustainability Officer, Argo Group, former IRM Chair & NED.

Alex has a solid track record in financial services with experience in oversight of risk management, sustainability, capital modelling as well as compliance. Alex operates to the highest ethical standards, and his roles involve presenting on complex issues in a constructive manner to drive a culture change.  As well as being an active member of the IRM Environmental & Social Governance Group, he is also a committee member of the IRM NED & CRO interest group, as well as a special adviser to the ESG Foundation and Co-Chair of the Risk Officer Sustainability Forum.  He is Chair of the ESG Working Group, Lloyd’s Market Association, and an Advisory Group Committee member of the Risk Coalition. An experienced Non-Executive Director, Alex has over thirteen years of not-for-profit sector experience and is a former IRM Chair and NED. Alex has been a Lead Examiner for the IRM and held various other leading roles in the institute's governance, thought leadership and education functions.

Shailesh has worn many hats in the corporate world & raised standards of various organizations so high that people consider him a serial Innovator, Pioneer, Teacher, Speaker, Author, Analyst, Entrepreneur & Citizen of the World (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam). He is not only a Chartered & Cost Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, a Certified Financial Planner, Fraud Examiner, Board Chairman, Audit Committee Chairperson, and independent director at some of the country's most pre-eminent organizations. He is a global thought leader in Environment, Social & Governance and has helped pioneer Impactful concepts like IR & Innovating path to Net Zero. He has been conferred with the Global Competent Boards Designation (GCB.D) by Competent Boards Inc. He has been awarded the “Vivekananda Sustainability Award – 2022” by Vivekananda Youth Connect Foundation.

Mr Haribhakti actively promotes shared value creation and a green environment through his own enterprise and his leadership roles as Chairman of the CSR / ESG / Sustainability committees of some of the boards he serves on. He has successfully established the concept of “Innovate to Zero” and technology enabling CSR / ESG / sustainability, which aligns with the idea of making the impact of every intervention focused, widespread, cooperative and far-reaching.

Hersh Shah, Chief Executive Officer, IRM India Affiliate & India Regional Group Chairman.

A Commerce Graduate from Mumbai University (H.R. College of Commerce & Economics) is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and an alumnus of IIM-Bangalore. He is a Technical Specialist elected by the Institute of Risk Management, UK. He has over 11 years of experience in audit and assurance, risk management, consulting and corporate finance including structuring of strategic alliances & partnerships with a specific focus on the education sector. Hersh has delivered sessions in Enterprise Risk Management for over 7000+ students across India in risk management since the age of 21.
