Environmental and Social Governance (ESG) is a crucial area of focus for many businesses. It is also in the news a great deal, for example, with discussions from 'Greenwashing' to Net-Zero. Following COP27 in Egypt, this event aims to provide attendees with a summary of the current trends, issues, and challenges around ESG.

The event will be split into four sections, with each session focusing on one of the Environmental and Social Governance umbrella term, and there will be time for panel questions at the end of the session.

Session 1: Environment: Ian Brooks, MSc, BSc - Senior Lecturer – Environmental Business Skills & Sustainable Technologies, University of the West of England. Previously a Management Consultant with PwC and IBM. Click here to view the presentation slides

Session 2: Governance: Anita Punwani CFIRM, Chair IRM ESG Group and Alex Hindson CFIRM, Chief Risk & Sustainability Officer at Argo Group. Click here to view the presentation slides.

Anita’s career in engineering, economics, management and governance spans the public, not-for-profit and private sectors, including senior risk roles at the heart of UK government. She has served on the IRM Board and numerous committees including the IRM Audit & Risk and Interest Group committees.  Anita earned a MSc in Global Governance & Ethics and represents the UK and IRM in relation to international governance standards.  As IRM Deputy Chair & NED, she was interviewed by the BBC & CNBC during the pandemic.  Anita is a member of Chatham House and UNA-UK.  Her artwork was selected by the World Bank’s ‘Art of Resilience’ competition.

Alex will be joining Crowe UK as ESG Partner in January 2023. He is currently Chief Risk & Sustainability Officer at Argo Group, a property & casualty insurer where he has developed and implemented its sustainability strategy, aligned to ESG governance and board-level. Prior to this he was Chief Risk Officer of Amlin AG in Switzerland and Head of Group Risk at Amlin PLC. He previously worked in consulting and industry and is originally a Chemical Engineer. He holds a MSc in Integrated Environmental Management and is a Certified Fellow of the Institute of Risk Management, where he was previously a non-executive director and chairman of the board.
