Technical Specialist (SIRM)

Specialist knowledge often makes the difference between competence and valuable contribution. We recognise the importance of specialists in risk management and the key role they play in the profession. We welcome specialists as members of the IRM.

Anyone who can demonstrate specialist knowledge in a particular risk-related discipline, such as business continuity, crisis management, health & safety, project risk management or security, may apply to become a Technical Specialist.

To join, you must be currently working in a specialist risk role, have a minimum of 5 years' relevant risk management work experience and:

  • Either: have obtained within the last 10 years a recognised and relevant postgraduate-level professional or academic qualification containing significant risk-related content
  • Or: have previously successfully completed one of the specialist modules of the IRM’s International Diploma.

This category of membership is also open to practising academics teaching on risk-related university undergraduate degree and masters programmes.

Successful applicants have the right to use the designation SIRM.
