The
Institute is continuing to establish itself as the leading
international risk
management education organisation with the decision by
the College of Business Administration of the University
of Kuwait, to offer courses leading to the examinations
for the Associateship qualification. The College had
reviewed the various qualifications available and on
a visit to the UK earlier this year, Professor Adel Rabeh
and Professor Ali Al-Ashry of the Department of Insurance & Risk
Management met the Institute’s Chief Executive,
Steve Fowler and registered their wish to offer our qualifications
in Kuwait.
Subsequently Barry Holt of the Institute met Professors
Rabeh and Al-Ashry, together with the Dean of the College,
on March 17th to discuss their detailed proposals for
marketing and presenting the programmes and conducting
the examinations. As a result of this meeting, the Board
of Directors approved the College’s proposals and
a formal launch of the programme was held on 26th May.
This was attended by delegates of the major commercial
and industrial organisations in Kuwait together with
representatives of the Ministry of Education. The Dean
also announced the programme at a dinner on 2nd June
attended by 200 people.
The College, which is one of the leading business schools
in the Middle East, already offers MBA programmes and
qualifications in insurance and public finance and will
be offering health, safety and environmental courses
next year. The IRM programmes will start in autumn 2003
with the objective of entering students for the June
2004 exams and they anticipate around ten students in
the first year. The Institute looks forward to a long
and mutually beneficial collaboration with the College
and offers its best wishes to the staff and students.
