The London-based Institute of Risk Management (IRM) is launching a new regional group in Bermuda, reflecting rising local interest in a professional approach to risk management. The first meeting of the new group will be a breakfast session on 18 March entitled "Bringing a risk framework to life". This will be led by IRM Chairman Alex Hindson who is visiting the island to meet local risk professionals.

Mr Hindson commented "Although many of our members today will come from Bermuda's insurance community, IRM welcomes students and members from many different sectors as effective management of risk is becoming increasingly important for organisations of all types. IRM is an international organisation which believes passionately in the value of professional education and training in risk management and in the business benefits that can be gained from effective networking.”

This initial event is being hosted by PwC at The Hamilton Princess. Andrew Smith, Regulatory & Risk Director at PwC, commented on the increased profile and importance of Bermuda risk professionals in a Solvency II environment and how he saw a local IRM group as a positive step in creating a new working risk community. In addition, Mr Smith will also announce the launch of the third Insurance Banana Skins survey carried out by the Centre for the Study of Financial Innovation (the CSFI) and PwC. This survey explores the risks insurers face and how prepared they are to tackle them, and takes place during March this year.
