Specialist membership is open to practising risk managers who can demonstrate specialist knowledge in a particular area of risk, e.g. disaster recovery, health and safety, insurance, security.
Applicants must demonstrate a minimum of 5 years risk management experience and either
- a recognised and relevant professional or academic qualification (see list below) or
- successful completion of one of the IRM Specialist Diploma modules
Successful applicants will become voting members of the IRM and entitled to use the designatory letters SIRM.
A list of the qualifications currently recognised as meeting IRM’s criteria for Specialist membership is given below. Please note that membership will only be granted to those who have completed whole qualifications rather than individual modules within a course.

If you possess a risk qualification which is not listed above but which you feel meets the criteria for Specialist membership, you may still submit an application. You must include a copy of the course syllabus and evidence to demonstrate the duration of study and the grading scale. Documents must be submitted in English and applicants must verify any translations.
