Group aims & objectives
PPP is currently of major interest to risk managers and other professionals working in the public sector, due to the Government inclination for major procurement contracts to follow this route. The public sector is deeply interested in gaining further knowledge of the risks involved with this procurement route, and also how to allocate those risks in the interests of achieving best value.
Likewise the PFI Providers and Operators, together with Funders and Insurers have enormous interest in ascertaining the risks involved with the 25 - 30 year transfer of risk to the Private Sector.
The Institute of Risk Management has set up a PPP/PFI Special Interest Group specifically to offer an informal forum for all stakeholders to the PPP/PFI process to exchange views on risk in PPP/PFI, including views on risk retention, transfer, pricing and allocation. The aim is also to develop members' interests outside of the London area.
Meetings will follow the pattern of the successful Manchester based 'Emergent Risks' group, starting at 11:30 am, running through with lunch until 2:00 pm. Each session will involve a presentation by a relevant expert. Mike Walker will act as Chairman. It is proposed the meetings will be held quarterly, mainly in London but also at other locations to suit the subject matter.
