Group aims & objectives

Before the the 2004/05 academic year, the syllabus for the IRM Diploma core subject module 'Risk Management: Organisation and Communication' was slightly re-aligned and the paper became 'Risk Management: Organisation and Context'. (RMOC)

Bruce Widdowson, IRM RMOC Assistant Examiner, proposed that - going forward - the subject of communication could be best facilitated by IRM by forming a SIG and this idea formed the basis of this group.

People risk

How many missed opportunities or organisational failures happen through poor communication? 'People risk' is a major component - some would say the major component - of risk management, irrespective of organisational type or industry sector.

Communication is key to effective risk management, reaching far beyond the orbit of academic study. It affects everybody in an organisation and is a fundamental part of People Risk along with training, motivation and incentives. The exposures stretch across organisations and beyond to Contractors, Trade Unions, Partners and many more.
