UK National Infrastructure Cost Contingency Challenge

IRM Training Room, 6th Floor, 6 Lloyd’s Avenue, London EC3N 3AX
Friday 27th January 2012 0900 - 1200

HM Treasury and Transport for London, in association with the Institute of Risk Management, invite IRM members to an Infrastructure Cost Contingency Challenge which aims to develop new thinking in the effective handling of cost contingency in UK infrastructure projects and programmes.

The forum is in support of Infrastructure UK’s “Cost Review” programme which has the objective - confirmed by the recently published 2011 National Infrastructure Plan – of delivering £20-30bn of savings in UK infrastructure projects and programmes over the next 10 years.

The forum will provide attendees with the opportunity to both understand and help shape new thinking in cost contingency handling and will be presented by the joint leaders of the Cost Review’s Risk and Contingency Project:

• Bruce Harmsworth, a Commercial Specialist from Infrastructure UK in HM Treasury who has more than fifteen years experience as an advisor on risk allocation and management.

• Will Boxall, Stations Risk Manager for London Underground’s £4bn Stations Programme who was short-listed for Risk Manager of the Year at the Risk Management Awards 2011.

About the Risk and Contingency project

The Risk and Contingency project was established by the Infrastructure UK Cost Review in the summer of 2011 to investigate new approaches to contingency management that could deliver lower project cost out-turns. It is run jointly by Infrastructure UK and London Underground and supported by the Scottish Futures Trust and major UK infrastructure operators including Network Rail, the Highways Agency, the Environment Agency, the National Grid and BAA.
