Rebuilding the UK Energy Infrastructure: Will the Lights Go Out? |
| Agenda |
There has been much talk about the energy shortage that looms over the UK, and the roles of renewable and other energy technologies in filling it. Nuclear is expected to play a key role, but remains controversial, both in terms of feasibility and safety.
This meeting will address the major hurdles that a new nuclear power programme will have to clear:
- Regulatory – including safety, environmental and planning issues;
- Finance – risk and return on investment;
- Construction – in view of delays to nuclear projects overseas;
- Capacity – availability of skilled manpower and manufacturing resources.
Following an introduction to each topic, participants will have the opportunity to debate the possible scenarios that would not merely halt the nuclear programme, but might also plunge the UK back into the cold and the dark.
