Our Client is working hard to improve Greater Manchester.  In the past year alone it has invested over £100 million in infrastructure improvements in the city region.    

The infrastructure investments do not stop there.  In 2009, work will start on delivering on a number of prestigious capital projects in Greater Manchester.  

In addition, the result of a bid to government for substantial additional funding are expected soon.  If successful, this bid will result in the largest infrastructure investment of its sort outside of London. 

To equip this organisation with the skills and capabilities to bring a number of multi-million pound projects and initiatives to fruition it is recruiting additional staff and refocusing activities on priority areas. 

This forward-looking, delivery focussed, North West organisation committed to ongoing development, is offering an attractive package for a Head of Risk and Assurance.

Reporting to Director of Finance and Corporate Services, the Head of Risk and Assurance will lead the finance function in this exciting and expanding organisation. 

This will mean you will provide the Board and Audit Committee with independent and objective assurance that risk management, internal controls and governance across the organisation are adequate and effective. 

In what is an influential and challenging role, you will provide independent and objective assurance on the adequacy and effectiveness of risk management, internal controls and governance, across the entire organisation as this progressive infrastructure provider with more then 540 staff continues to develop and expand. You will develop and deliver audit plans, and, importantly take responsibility for the management, motivation and development of the risk and assurance team.

To gain the trust and respect of this team, as well as outside agencies, you must be experienced in all practical and theoretical aspects of risk and corporate governance – gained in a senior role in which you’ve delivered at both strategic and operational levels within a large and complex organisation. Excellent people and relationship management skills will also be essential, as will experience of managing capital projects and system amalgamation. You will also, ideally have experience of external Gateway reviews.
