The Institute of Risk Management (IRM) is the world’s leading enterprise-wide risk education Institute. We are independent, well respected advocates of the risk profession, owned by practising risk professionals. IRM passionately believes in the importance of risk management and that investment in education and continuous development leads to more effective risk management. We provide professional qualifications, short courses and events at a range of levels from introductory to expert. IRM supports risk professionals by providing the skills and tools needed to put theory into practice to deal with the demands of a constantly changing, sophisticated and challenging business environment. We operate internationally, with members and students in over 50 countries, drawn from a variety of risk related disciplines and a wide range of industries.

With its focus on enterprise risk management, IRM is sector independent with members and students from all branches of the risk profession - the worldwide membership is drawn from industry, commerce, consultancy, the public sector and the charitiable and not-for-profit sectors. Members have backgrounds in many different risk-related disciplines; accountants, project managers, insurers, chartered surveyors, health care professionals, lawyers, bankers, auditors, health and safety professionals and engineers are among those represented.

IRM qualified member grades (MIRM, CIRM and SIRM) are recognised worldwide as the sign of a qualified risk management professional and are achieved through examination and recognition of relevant prior learning. Fellowship (FIRM) follows through accredited practical experience.

The Institute's key aims are:

	Recognition - we aim to ensure that institute membership provides professional recognition and support for risk managers at every stage of their careers by providing challenging professional qualifications and promoting their value to key audiences
	Networking - we aim to provide opportunities for members to network with other like minded people to develop themselves as professionals, to share knowledge and experience and to facilitate business contacts
	Knowledge - we aim to promote technical and ethical excellence in risk management not only through our professional qualifications and membership but also through other activities including short training courses, knowledge sharing activities and events and publications
	Career Support - we aim to support individuals through every stage of their risk management careers by providing opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills and develop a professional profile and network.

IRM is a company limited by guarantee, i.e. a ‘not-for-profit’ organisation and is governed by a Board of Directors elected from Members and Fellows of the Institute. Any surplus generated by the IRM's activties is ploughed back into the development of risk management education.
